August Meeting

The August meeting was held on 12th of August. It was chaired by our President, Joie Ng, and minutes were recorded by our Secretary Rebecca Yates. Items of discussion included;

✈️ The President provided an update on the ALSA Conference, highlighting a productive and collaborative experience with universities from across Australia.

🏆 Murdoch competitors performed strongly at ALSA, with multiple WA competitors progressing through the rounds, including a Murdoch competitor reaching the quarter finals.

⚖️ The GWM Intervarsity Moot is coming up, with Murdoch represented by Nicholas and Maisara in the first round on 27 August, followed by the Grand Final on 3 September.

☕ The Café has had its strongest period of the year so far, with high engagement, strong merchandise sales and increased attendance.

🧹 Committee members were reminded of upcoming health inspections, with cleaning sheets and daily rosters provided for café shifts.

📋 The Secretary was formally approved as the Society's authorised contact with the ATO, replacing the former Secretary in this capacity.

📅 The MSLS AGM will be held on 21 October, with further information to be shared through our socials.

🎬 Legally Blonde Movie Night is taking place on 19 August at HSF, with pizza and popcorn included in tickets and drinks available for purchase. The event is proudly sponsored by the College of Law.

🍸 The End of Year event venue has been secured in Leederville, featuring a private upstairs terrace, food and a bar tab. $3,000 expenditure was approved for the event.

🏆 Junior Moot is underway, proudly sponsored by Clayton Utz, with sign-ups closing this week.

⚖️ Senior WITEX is also running throughout the semester, with rounds taking place Monday evenings.

📖 The 2026 Careers Guide is due to be published next week, with final drafts being sent to participating firms.
