WHAT IS SENIOR WITNESS EXAMINATION?
Senior Witness Examination is the most fast-paced and exciting competition MSLS offers. Generally only requiring 1-2 hours of preparation time, it is much less of a burden on the participant than a moot. On the other hand, it provides a challenge to one’s quick-thinking skills that its counterpart does not.
The Witness Examination Competition is a simulated civil or criminal trial. Rather than arguing over legal principles, competitors will be trying to convince the judge that their story is more plausible. The trial will run through opening statements, examination in chief, cross-examination and closing statements. Unlike its predecessor Trial Advocacy, Witrness Examination also emphasises rules of evidence and procedure. Witness Examination runs with one barrister and one non-competitive witness. Competitors will be required to think on their feet, but the advocacy skills developed will be priceless. Senior Witness Examination is a solo competition.
