WHAT IS SENIOR TRIAL ADVOCACY?
Senior Trial Advocacy is the most fast-paced and exciting competition MSLS offers. Generally only requiring 1-2 hours of preparation time, trial advocacy is much less of a burden on the participant than a moot. On the other hand, it provides a challenge to one’s quick-thinking skills that its counterpart does not.
The Trial Advocacy Competition is a simulated civil or criminal trial. Rather than arguing over legal principles, competitors will be trying to convince the judge that their story is more plausible. The trial will run through opening statements, examination in chief, cross-examination and closing statements. Trial Advocacy runs with one barrister and one non-competitive witness. Competitors will be required to think on their feet, but the advocacy skills developed will be priceless. Senior Trial Advocacy is a solo competition.
