WHAT IS JUNIOR TRIAL ADVOCACY?
Junior Trial Advocacy is all of the excitement and thrills of Senior Trial Advocacy but without the threat of coming up against a Trial-Advocacy veteran in your first round. This competition aims to facilitate the development of advocacy, oratory, and argumentative skills.
Competing in Junior Trial Advocacy is also an excellent way to gain the confidence and experience required to enter many Senior Competitions in the later years of your degree. Many Junior Trial Advocacy winners go on to becoming champions in the Senior Trial Advocacy arena. The competition mirrors a part of a real trial, with counsel providing opening and closing statements, as well as examining and cross-examining witnesses. The competition is comparable to the high school mock trials competition and acts as a stepping-stone into the senior competitions.
Preparation is the key to succeeding at this competition, along with a well thought out case theory. Preparation allows you to perform at your best; giving you confidence and making the most of your skills. The nature of the competition focuses on oral skills and the ability to think on your feet.
Any MSLS Member who is in their first year of study may enter Junior Trial Advocacy.
