WHAT IS JUNIOR CLIENT INTERVIEW?
The Junior Client Interview Competition is open only to first-year students. It aims to allow first-year students to compete in a less intimidating environment to develop keys skills of interpersonal communication and cooperation. The ability to effectively extract and identify the relevant facts from a possibly uncooperative client in a short space of time is one that is essential to any lawyer, aspiring or otherwise.
The competition involves two partner-competitors working together to question a potential client that has come to them with a legal problem. Competitors must cover all the formalities of an interview, take note of the personal details of the client, the intricacies of the problem and suggest possible courses of action. Assessment is based on how well questions are asked, how well competitors interact with the client and each other. No knowledge of any substantive law is necessary to compete.
