As an Articled Clerk you can expect to work directly with our Principals and senior solicitors while working closely with our clients from a relatively early stage in your career.  In addition to good academic results, we are looking for candidates who can communicate confidently, think independently and are passionate about finding commercially sound solutions for our clients.  You can expect to rotate through at least 2 practice areas during your Articles year with our aim of providing you with a broad range of skills and an exposure to different areas of law and senior practitioners.  Allion is committed to the continuing education of all our people and this is underpinned by a comprehensive professional development seminar calendar which includes practice area specific and firm wide presentations on a regular basis.

Applicants should forward their resume together with a cover letter and their academic results to Sue Redmond, our Human Resources Manager, asap.

CORRS CHAMBERS WESTGARTH

As a result of the Law Society’s announcement regarding the cancellation of the Graduate Recruitment Monitoring Scheme Guidelines (Guidelines) we would like to outline the position that Corrs Chambers Westgarth (Corrs) intends to take with respect to upcoming recruitment processes in 2010.

2011 graduate recruitment – priority offers

Students who are eligible to be considered under this priority model must have either undertaken a formal clerkship with Corrs prior to applying. Students must also be in their final year and therefore be eligible for either a 2011 or deferred 2012 graduate position.

We wish to advise Corrs may depart from the priority dates outlined by the Graduate Recruitment Monitoring Scheme Guidelines in the following manner:

• Corrs may make employment offers to candidates at the completion of their Clerkships, without reference to the process and date/s for offers in the Guidelines; and

• Corrs may make employment offers to final year candidates who are currently working on a casual basis at Corrs without reference to the process and date/s for offers in the Guidelines.

If necessary, Corrs will conduct a standard graduate recruitment process, in accordance with the Guidelines, to fill any remaining graduate positions for 2011. Thus the dates will be as follows:

Applications open:                  Monday 5 July 2010

Applications close:                  Friday 6 Aug 2010

Review/Interview:                    Monday 9 Aug – Friday 3 Sep 2010

Offers made:                           Wednesday 8 Sep 2010 at 9am

Offers close:                            Thursday 9 Sep 2010 at 5pm

Seasonal clerk recruitment

Corrs will adhere to the seasonal clerk recruitment dates that have been prescribed by the Guidelines for the rest of 2010, but will only be recruiting for summer 2010 positions only. We envisage that in future years, that we will be recruiting for both winter and summer positions of that year during April – June.

Thus 2010 Summer clerkship dates will be as follows:

Applications open:                  Monday 9 Aug 2010

Applications close:                  Friday 20 Aug 2010

Review/Interview:                  Monday 23 Aug – Friday 24 Sep 2010

Offers made:                           Wednesday 29 Sep 2010 at 9am (kept open for two hours)

Corrs are committed to ensuring that the system continues to be fair and equitable for all of our candidates and we will keep you informed of any further relevant changes.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact:

CLAYTON UTZ

Clayton Utz to Maintain Transparent and Equitable System

Perth, 25 June 2010: During the past 12 months, Clayton Utz has taken a leadership role in the reform of the process for law graduate recruitment in Western Australia. This has been undertaken with a view towards creating a certain, transparent, efficient and equitable system for the benefit of graduates and the profession alike.

The Law Society of Western Australia has this morning announced its decision to discontinue the Graduate Recruitment Monitoring Scheme. Notwithstanding this decision, Clayton Utz confirms its commitment to the recruitment process and timeframes that we have previously published on our website. We do so as a demonstration of Clayton Utz’s values, and in support of those students that we look forward to welcoming to the Clayton Utz team and the profession in general.

We understand that graduates will be faced with some difficult decisions and believe that our recruitment process will provide graduates with as much time as possible to make an informed and considered decision about the important first step in their legal careers.

In summary, the Clayton Utz Graduate Recruitment dates for this year will remain as follows:

Graduate Offers (for 2011)

Graduate priority offers made:           Friday 23 July at 9am

Priority offers held open to:                Tuesday 27 July at 5pm

Summer 2010 and Winter 2011 Vacation Clerkships

Applications open:                                          Monday 9 August 2010

Applications close:                                          Friday 20 August 2010

Review of applications and interviews:          Monday 23 August - Friday 24 September 2010

Offers made:                                                   Wednesday 29 September 2010 at 9am (held open for 2 hours)

At this stage, Clayton Utz is unaware of the processes that other firms intend to implement in relation to graduate and vacation clerk recruitment during 2010. We encourage other members of the profession in Western Australia to adopt a program that is consistent with Clayton Utz’s approach, and make life that little bit easier for students during what is a challenging time for all involved.

We will be communicating with all stakeholders in the coming days. In the meantime, should you wish to discuss any aspects of the upcoming Clayton Utz Graduate and Vacation Clerk Recruitment Program, please contact us.
